Dr. Tam follows the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s recommendation: schedule your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday, then every six months afterward. And if you’re running a little behind — no worries! We’ll get your little one back on track.
What happens during these visits? Lots of gentle attention! Dr. Tam knows every child is unique and takes time to make each visit warm, welcoming, and stress-free. We use advanced tools like wireless polishing machines and tiny intraoral cameras so we can show you exactly what’s happening inside your child’s mouth — making every visit educational and engaging.

Once those tiny teeth start touching, it’s time for X-rays! Early radiographs help detect cavities and monitor developing teeth that might otherwise stay hidden. At Tiny Roots, Dr. Tam uses state-of-the-art digital X-rays with ultra-low exposure designed for kids. We keep it easy and comfortable — just a small, soft piece gently placed in your child’s mouth, and we capture the images quickly. No fuss, no tears — just peace of mind!

Deep grooves and little toothbrushes aren’t always a good match! That’s where sealants come in. Dr. Tam applies a thin layer of protective resin to those hard-to-clean molars, blocking out food particles and bacteria. This helps prevent cavities before they even start! With regular follow-up checks, sealants can last up to 10 years, giving your child long-lasting protection — and one less thing for parents to worry about.

When a cavity or injury is too big for a simple filling, a crown steps in as a superhero for little teeth! Crowns act as protective helmets for teeth that need extra support. Dr. Tam offers both stainless steel crowns for back teeth (super durable for little chewers!) and tooth-colored crowns for front teeth, ensuring function and beauty while protecting your child’s smile.

For more extensive treatments, or for little ones with high anxiety or special needs, Dr. Tam offers IV sedation — the most effective way to complete necessary procedures in one visit while your child sleeps peacefully. Administered by a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist right here in our office, IV sedation allows us to provide care safely, efficiently, and comfortably.
